Chapter 12

Sexual Health

In the United States, 91% of married adult men and 84% of married adult women consider it important to have a satisfying sex life[499].

The prevalence of sexual dysfunction increases as men and women age; about 40-45% of all adult women and 20-30% of all adult men have at least one manifest sexual dysfunction. Common risk factor categories associated with sexual dysfunction exist for men and women including: individual general health status, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, other genitourinary disease, psychiatric/psychological disorders, other chronic diseases, and socio-demographic conditions[500].

Overall Causes of ED (from above)

Vascular Causes 50-56%

Psychological Causes 20-33%

Pharmacologic Causes 6-8%

Operative Causes 6-8%

Neurologic Causes 3-4%

Endocrinologic Causes 2-3%

Traumatic 1%

The Program 120® team feels that the vascular causes are mostly associated with a decline in testosterone levels (hypogonadism is strongly associated with vascular and insulin resistance which causes endothelial damage) – this is not a unique position[501].
